Mathew Buechel MSPAS/MPH, PA-C

Bay Area Orthopedics welcomes the addition of our new Physician Assistant, Mathew Buechel, to our Sports Medicine team. Mathew is a recent graduate of Touro University on Mare Island in Vallejo, California, receiving dual degrees as a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, as well as a Masters of Public Health.

A native of Wisconsin, Mathew has long been a part of the sports medicine environment. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point in Athletic Training, working as the head undergraduate trainer to the men's basketball, football and hockey teams. He then completed a Masters of Arts degree in Sports Medicine at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, performing his graduate assistantship as the Head Athletic Trainer at Kellogg Community College, in Battle Creek, Michigan.

In 2000, Mathew came to California to work as an athletic trainer in Menlo Park, California. After running his own athletic training business in San Francisco for five years, he went back to school to acquire extensive medical training to prepare him for a career as a Physician Assistant. His passion for educating and working with people to pursue their health and fitness goals has driven Mathew to work in the orthopedic field.

Coming from the rural Midwest, Mathew has found comfort in California's natural landscapes. He and his wife enjoy the outdoors, whether camping or snowboarding. He also is enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time. Mathew's true passion is cooking; inspired by the dynamic international and local flavors, he is often exploring new and healthy cuisines.
